my friend is called Costal - seemed like a common and nice name to me. But now I have done quite a lot of searching. Does anyone know what this name means and where it originates from?

I have never heard of this name (m. or f.?). ALl I can think of is "coast" (costa in some languages) or Constantine (with the first N dropped in some short forms).
