interesting site, thanks for sharing. i'm named after mother, a georgia country girl, from a few generations back, caucasian. i've been told the name was french, meaning beautiful, i have no idea. the name is pronounced with emphasis on the second syllable, with the e as in egg sound! thanks again.

Unless your name was taken from a surname, your name is, indeed, a French first name -- a French variation of the Latin name "Renata", meaning "reborn" (from whence also comes the word "Renaissance", the "rebirth" of European civilization following the Dark Ages).

I have to do a research paper on the meaning of my name Renee. I know that it means "Reborn" but I was hoping to get more information on this (some type of hystorical background).
