I was able to compile the following data thanks to Michael Clingman of the U.S. Social Security Administration, who provided me with the complete listings which aren’t found on the SSA website. These names represent the top 10 names for each year for each letter of the alphabet.

The names for the years 1999 and 2000 were taken from a 100% sampling of children born in those years whose parents applied for a Social Security card for them.

The names for the year 2001 is, of course, not complete, and represents only a sampling of children born between the months of January and August of this year. By the end of this year I hope to have the complete listing.

The names are listed in order of popularity for each year, by letter of the alphabet.

Please note: Any name included in these statistics represents a child whose parents were able to apply for a Social Security card on that child’s behalf. Proof of U.S. citizenship or legal alien status is required by the Social Security Administration.
