Tipperary, Ireland Names
There is a barony in south Tipperary County, Ireland, called
Iffa and Offa West. Does anyone know what the name
Iffa and Offa means? There was a Saxon king named
Offa, but I am not sure if the barony name refers to
this Offa. I have no clue what Iffa refers too, but
it sounds like a feminine name. I have been trying to
figure this one out for over 5 years!!!

See if you can...Get hold of a copy of one of the many books on Irish place names. Failing that, see if you can find older versions of the name in records.

Hi Rourke,I came across the name Offa, which is an Old Swedish short form of Old Norse names ending on -ulf like Stenulf or Grimulf. The suffix means "wolf".Regards, Satu

It's also the name of a few Old English kings. :-)a
