Chinese family names?!

Well, I am not sure if I should post my question here or in the Name Opinions section. I've got a funny problem. I need some names for a work of fiction I am writing. I have a couple of Chinese characters and I am not sure how to give them surnames.

Lian and Mingmei are the names of these two girls. Any suggestions about their surnames/full names will be most welcome.

I am not too sure but I am pretty sure there is only a very limted number of surname in China to begin with. Ones I can think of are Lei/Lee, Lam, Chin, & Chao.
