Ok. I have a project for you guys.
I have a friend. Her son's name is Norrette. It is male and American Indian. I do not know what tribe. Do any of you have any clues as to its meaning? If ya do could ya let me know? Thanks again for your help. Tracie

Hi, Tracie. Norrette seems like an unusual spelling for a male Native American name. Have you interrogated your friend completely, yet, about where she got that name from? I use the word "interrogate", because sometimes people remember things better when questioned intensely. :)

Nan, the name was given to her great-great grandfather. It was after a Native American boy who worked in the fields. She is currently trying to find out which tribe it was from for me. It might not have been spelled that way until it was given to her great-great grandfather. I am still working on some more info for you guys. I jsut thought it might help to have a bit of a head start. I am doing it for a Christmas gift to her.
I don't know anything about the name, but what a clever idea for a unique Christmas gift!
Tracie, when you talk to your friend again, ask her in which U.S. state (or territory) her great-great-grandfather was born. Ask her what her ancestor's surname was. Ask her the year in which she thinks her ancestor was born and when he died. A search of U.S. census records may turn up a clue as to the origin of his name. :)
