what does it mean????
I have a name that has been passed down through several generations in my family. I think it is beautiful and unique but have no idea of the meaning. We know that it was taken from a german girl that my great, great, grandfather was in love with. We think that it is German. Please help. All of my research shows it as an adjective in a Shakesperean play. That is the only info I know about it.

is the name spelled Vaulty or does it sound that way.
Dont mention the war!!!!
Vaulty is registered in the Oxford English Dictionary as:
"resembling a vault; having the arching form of a vault". The word "vault" itself entered english via the french "voute" which itself stems from the Latin "volvere," namely "to turn".
Assuming the name was taken from a German gal, it was probably originally pronounced "Fawlty," as in evetyone's favorite resort in Torquay :)
German : Will you stop talking about the war!
Basil : Me? You started it!
German : We did not start it.
Basil : Yes you did, you invaded Poland...
