my name too
I don't know what this website is all about, but I did a random search of my name ("Laken") and came across this web page.
I love my name, and find that nearly everyone I meet comments on the uniqueness and the individuality of my name. Plus, my mommy named me this, and I love her very much too!
Here's to all you "Lakens" out there!
Happy Holidays!

I believe I've heard it somewhere . . . ah, yes, it's a place name in German-speaking or Germanic-language-speaking countries (c/f Interlaken in Switzerland, which means "between the lakes", apparently from a Latin route, given on one site as 'interlacus', which looks too simple to me!). It also appears to be a surname in and from those countries.
A quick search of a couple of German-English dictionaries shows that laken is also a German vocabulary word, variously translated as "sheet" or "linen" (linen being the usual material for sheets, at least in the past).
