I'm wondering if you guys could help me: (I hate to be rude, but if you know nothing about the name, or the language, don't reply. I don't want guesses. And if you got the meaning from a baby-name site, its most likely wrong.)

Vara - I was told this was a Swedish word. If so, what is the meaning?

Signy is pr. SIG-nee and Signe is SING-nuh.
Sigyn is pr. SEEG-in.
Vara means "to be" in Swedish. It's pr. VAH-ruh.

Signy is pronounced SIG-nee. A variant is the Danish "Signe" which is roughly pronounced SEE-na.
Sigyn is SIG-oon (the "oo" is as in "book", not "soon")
Vara is VAH-rah. It means "to be" in Swedish.

Well, I can't promise that it's the absolutely-right pronunciation, but I have a second cousin named Signy, and she pronunces it SIG-nee. Astraea I would say "ah-strah-AY-ah" at first glance, but I'm probably wrong on that.
