Re: Larkin vs. Lestat
I would never consider naming a kid Lestat, because the name itself is a recent artifact that symbolizes the most banal pop culture to me. Not that I'm not an Anne Rice fan; I am. But the name has nothing more to it than its being the name of a vampire - it's a figment of a vivid, highly sensual modern fantasy which pretty much everybody's heard of; and so I think it's unsuitably fey. Too bad it's not anything more than that, because it would be a neat name if it was, say, an old French surname or somesuch. I suppose if the name caught on and there were real people out there called Lestat, that would change it somewhat.Anyway, I'm a big fan of Larkin. Larkin Gerard is great! I wouldn't use Larkin because there are so many other names I like more, but I'd consider it. - chazdaedited out errors
