Maris
I have a class with a girl named Maris. At first I thought it was a very unusual name but its starting to grow on me... what do you think of it?

Maris is my mother's nn. Her name is Marie-Simone (click Marie, Simone), and Marie + the first letter of Simone give Maris in French. But we don't use it for the meaning (we didn't even know of it) since we're Jewish. :)

I absolutely love Maris :-) I used to prefer Marissa, and I still like that, but now I think Marissa blends into all the other frilly -issa names, and that Maris has more character. Maris Georgiana is a favourite combination of mine.

It only reminds me of the sitcom Frasier. Niles' wife was Maris.

To Lisa007: it's not pronounced like that, it's more like the Mar of Mary or "air," with that odd schwah (sp?) a.Personally, I like it.

Sorry I don't like it... I'm not to fond of MAR names with the strong A sound like Marcy or Mark.
