Kimberly does sound dated to me, but it has a nice flow. If you like it, stick with the full name....I see Kimi as a separate name from Kimberly. As another poster noted, it is a Japanese name; the Kimi I know is pronounced "Kee-mee." With respect to Kim...I could probably name at least 30 people I know who have Kim as a last name (it's one of the most common Korean surnames). It also makes me think of the story by Rudyard Kipling.
