I prefer the spelling Bennet, but love the name on both genders. (It's one of many medieval unisex names, used to Anglicise both Benedict and Benedicta.)
I wouldn't use Ben, or any nickname. Ben is just so dull.

I love this name too. I like the name Ben, but I don't like the full form Benjamin so much. Bennett is a name I would use Ben as a nn for. I also like Benedict as a full form for Ben, but my mother always says "but its so Catholic!" when I tell her how I like the name. LOL!
