Chay could work as a nn for Shayne.I love the name Chet. I think it is quirky & jazzy & it is after a very inspirational person in my life. He carries the name so well.:o)

Not in my friend's case. His full name is Chet James Paul _________. But Chet is apparently an established nn for the name Chester. I'm not a fan of Chester though.

Traditionally, Chet is for Chester, I think. I like Chet, too--I think of Chet Baker.Array

I had an uncle named Chester ,(m)he was usually called Ches. A mild and obvious nick-name for that family; they were given to odd ones--Chester's brother Edgar was always clled "TeeTee". and his sister Elsie was called Pat.

Chester and Charles are equally traditional names, you know.I personally prefer Chester (which I do like quite well), but you'll find both used plenty on stodgy old men. Array

ShayneI saw it spelled Cheyne on television the other night. I thought it would be prn Chey-nee when I saw it (like the US vice president's last name), but then, someone on the show called him "Shane". I know the spelling for sure because it was one of those reality type shows where they actually put the name on the screen. Chey / Chay would work there, but it's a stretch because of the SH v the CH sound. I don't like the Cheyne spelling anyway, but just mentioning it.

I agree Cheyne is horrible & disfigures Shane. I am a little tired of the spelling Shane. Shayne is the spelling used in one of my favourite musician's name: Shayne Ward. I also thought Shayne would convert into the nn Chay more naturally.:o)

fair enough...Oops, I didn't realize you were going for the Ch-sound & not the Sh-sound. Silly me. My first suggestion would be Chet, but I guess Chase could work (I really dislike that name).

I guess Chay could be a NN for Charles. It doesn't really do anything for me, though. It made me think of Che.I dislike Chad. It's just blah to me.
