I was about 15 (about 6 years ago) when I thought of Emerson as a first name, and I have NEVER thought of using it for a boy. I presonally see a girl (at any age) with the name Emerson. If she feels its too masculine for her, there are plenty of feminine nn (anything starting with Em-).
