In Tudor times onwards up 'til at least the Puritan era, Christian was almost always feminine in English-speaking areas. I don't know when the female-to-male gender shift happened, but I think I believe it was certainly by the Victorian era.
I don't think Christian is good for a girl today though. But more for the fact that it's the name of a religion, and as an atheist/agnostic it's not for me.
