Malcolm (m)
What do you think of it as a first name, middle name, at all? I'm really starting to like it, but am unsure of using it partly b/c my last name ends in -um (Byrum). What would you use it with?
Thanks

Malcolm is a name DH and I considered for our DS and we kind of had the same issue with it, as our surname ends with an "-un" sound. Rhymey, but not as bad as Byrum. :o)
However, I think it sounded better as a fn (in our case, at least) than a mn for some reason. If you do decide to use it as a fn, may I suggest my Grandpa Malcolm's nn, Mac? Really, it's the nn Mac that completely sold me on the name Malcolm.

I adore the name Malcolm. Most Scottish male names seem rugged and romantic to me (ever since reading R. L. Stevenson's "Kidnapped!" as a tween). I wish Malcolm were more popular here in the U.S. Malcolm Byrum isn't the best combination, but that wouldn't stop me from falling in love with the name, such is my attraction for the name Malcolm.

Malcolm in the Middle
I've never seen the show, but its what I think of instantly.
Other than that, its not really my style, but I cant say I completely dislike it either.
As far as with your surname, I cant say I would use it. My boyfriends surname ends in the e sound, so a lot of my Hawaiian names have been kicked off the list for the double e ending. I really dislike it. I dont know how Malcolm in the mn position would work, but maybe it would be fine with the right fn - if you can find it

I personally don't like the name. I can't see it as a mn so If you like it you should use it for a fn. Malcolm Byrum sounds ok.
