I adore Peter, but it's my brother's name, so I'm a little biased.
I don't think it will end up the equivalent of Dick. My brother has never in his 13 years heard a penis joke.
To be perfectly honest, I've never heard of Peter or August as a word. I like August, but I prefer it as a middle name.
