I like Peter but I wouldn't use it just because of the penis problem (lol). :-/ I don't think anyone is 'cruel' for using it, though, by any means. As for your sister's ex, just another reason I might not use it if I were in your shoes. But if you're in love with it, I wouldn't necessarily let any of these reasons sway you.

I adore August. I pronounce the word and month the same, pretty much (or is the word more like aw-GUSST?...I prefer AW-gust). I don't find the connection to the month or the word being a problem.
