Atticus
Love To Kill a Mockingbird, and think that Atticus is one of the greatest literary characters of all time, but too overly used? Getting too common? Or does it just sound weird? Non-original? Anything positive about it?

Love it!I love the name Atticus. I think that it is definately not common here in the US. I planned on using it one day as a mn, perhaps even a fn. I would also like to say that even though a few years back the name Atticus might have been thought of as an "old person" name or a bit "classic" it has since changed in the past few years, especially in punk, rock, skater, and alternative groups because of the clothing brand Atticus. It gives the name a more punky feel to it, which I love. So, not only can it be classic and sophisticated but cool and current! Love it.

I know of one little boy named Atticus, nn Attie. I think it does sound weird, but its a very good reason to give a kid a weird name. It would be much worse if their "weird" name was something made up with no meaning or significant connection. I think it's definitely useable.

I don't think it's overly used certainly not in South Africa. I'm very fond of the name, but wouldn't use it. It's kind of a guilty pleasure for me.

Overly used? Common? Quite the opposite!I have never heard Atticus actual being used. I know some people on the boards that like it, but how many are attually using it?Besides, I love the name, and I love the book. Its a great name that most people forget about until I bring it up. I was very upset when my boyfriend crossed it off the list - I cant even have it as a mn.

I wouldn't say over-used, I've never heard of anyone with that name.
It does sound kind of weird though. Not my style. But alot of the people at this board are into those kind of names. :]
