Twin names
We are having a boy and a girl twins. My mother is telling me they have to have names that sound alike. My husband says they are individuals and should not have names tied to one another. What do you think? Am getting really confused.

I agree with the others. No rhyming names, they are two different people. Similar meanings is great though.
I think twins already have so much in common that its best to give them names that sound different. Personally I don't think it matters if they have their names starting with the same letter (Jade and Jackson for eg) or even if their names mean the same or similar things but don't name them something like Tegan and Regan or something like that.
LOL
My aunt always wished she had twin girls so she could call them Rochelle and Raquel (Shelly and Kelly). That's a little much. Totally agree with not rhyming.

I strongly believe twins should have as much individuality as possible and that begins with the names the parents choose. I remember coming across 'twinny' names from years ago (Donald/Ronald, Bernadette/Bernadine, Candy/Mandy). Those types of names I've never fogotten because they're so bad.
I'd suggest focusing on names that you love and that complement each other.

I really agree with your husband. I just loathe how people over-do the whole twin thing...and if I continue, I'll go into a lecture about it.
Anyway, if you want to please both - go with similar backgrounds of the names. I know a twinset Daniel and Matthew - both come from the biblical era. It connects them without being "twinsy".

Don't make them sound similar! Your husband is right, they are two individuals and deserve individual names. Matchy twin names are so sad, I cringe whenever I hear them :(
personally, i agree with your husband. but i think you should just focus on picking two names that you love! if they happen to be similar or totally different, who cares =)
I don't think you should use names too similar because if you were calling one of them the other may think your calling them if they hear only the ending or something. Somepeople don't like being twins and even if they do they are individual people. If their names have to be similar then have the same meaning instead.
I would not have soundalike/matchy names.
The names could have a similar meaning?

I agree with the last comment posted. You can name them individually but the names could have the same meaning. That would be a cute idea.
YOU ALL HAVE CONVINCED ME... THANKS!
You are right, it's better to be original. I don't want my twins to end up hating me for giving them similar names. Time to tell Mom to put a sock in it (as tackfully as possible). Thanks for your help... it gave me more confidence!

Yay!! Enjoy your babies and let us know what you pick for names.
