Isla?
This is a last minute entry to our list-what do you think? Are there any other ways to spell it that might be easier in the U.S.?
Thanks!!

I really don't like this name. I prefer Ilse.
It's beautiful! Please don't mess with the spelling; if you're worried, pick a different name.
I would just keep it spelled the way it is. It's really a pretty name!
This is obviously a favorite of mine, so I have a few opinions about it. :) It's a name I love, but I'm not sure if I'll use it in the future, and that's only because of the spelling and pronunciation issues. But I definitely wouldn't change the spelling if I were you. The spelling is part of why I love it so much. And other spellings are just as likely to be mispronounced (such as Ayla, Ila, or Eila). I think once people get to know her and know how to pronounce her name, it'll be fine. It's just that when she initially meets people she'll have to prn. it probably.
Also on the subject of Isla: The actress Isla Fisher is the first celebrity with the name I've seen in the U.S. (She was in "Wedding Crashers" and is engaged to Sacha Baron Cohen, a.k.a. Borat.) A co-worker and I were discussing her, and I purposely brought her up to see if he knew how to pronounce her first name--I was curious. But he said ILL-sah. :-/ I told him it was EYE-lah, like the beginning of "island" and he got it right away. But then he asked me why I knew that and I just laughed. :b

I love it, and I agree with others, don't change the spelling. People should be able to get it right, there are far trickier names out there.
I also like Isola (but only know that pronounced EEE-sola.)

Isla is gorgeous as is. Please don't change the spelling. The charm is that it comes from the word "isle." Very mystic and romantic. You lose the association if you change the spelling.

Isla Gwendolen
Isla Carys
Isla Guinevere

I love it! True, pronounciation would be kind of a pain for a kid living in the U.S., but I think it's worth it. You could spell it like Ila if you think it would be easier (and Ila also has a nice meaning), but either way I think it would get mispronounced sometimes.
Good luck :)

I LOVE the name Isla! I think that it will be pronounced correctly in the US nine out of ten times too. You could pronouce it Iyla, but I like the tratitional spelling better! Great choice in a name!
