I am kind of back and forth with it. I like it pretty much because I love Nicholas and if I didnt have a boy I wanted to use Nicole just to be able to use my all time favorite name. Through the years, every one I've met has left a somewhat negative impression on me.

And out of the many I know, I can only think of one who went by Nikki (the others simply went by Nicole) Personally, people worry about it too much. Its up to the kid nonetheless, but even so - people may assume, but one time is all it takes to correct them.
