I knew 2 girls named Carrie, and one boy Carey. I think it's fine on a boy.

I've never known a Carey of either sex, but perhaps because it sounds similar Carrie and Kerry (although not the same as either of them, in my accent), my first thought is that it's female. And there's Mariah Carey too - but also Cary Grant :-)

Cary Grant is one of my favorite Hollywood stars. I love the name, spelled Cary. I've given up suggesting it because (here in the US) it is too closely associated with the girl's nn Carrie. But I'm thrilled to see someone considering it for a boy. I could understand the Carey spelling, but only if that was a family surname.

I know that Carey is originally a masculine name, but I feel that using names which are most often thought of as girl names in present time can be a burden for an elementary or middle school aged boy. Kids are usually not too concerned with the etymology of a name when they are teasing someone. Perhaps it could be used as a mn.

I truly love Carey (this spelling only) and yes, on a BOY! I had a roommate Keri my freshman year of college, and I really didnt like it because I believe its a males name. However, I am one to like the male names that have "crossed over" so to speak such as Taylor, Blair, Carey, Ashley and Avery (and many more) all for boys, never for a girl.

Personally, I say go for it!

I think it's really handsome--reminiscent of Cary Grant. :) I prefer Cary for a boy and Carey for a girl (and Carrie for a girl if it's a nickname).

No. Sorry, but I can't see it on a boy.

I don't like the Carey spelling, only because it's too connected with Mariah Carey and Drew Carey (even Jim Carrey). I prefer Cary, like Cary Grant, or even Kerry, which I've never found terribly feminine. I grew up with a boy named Cary. He never had a huge problem, but for some reason I think a boy today with this name might have more teasing problems. Hopefully not. I think it's a very handsome name.
