Shiloh
Anyone else think that this is only popular because of Angelina Jolie? I mean, I had never heard of anyone name their kid Shiloh before May 2006. I mean, it's a nice name and all but I wouldn't name my kid Shiloh just because of a celebrity. Plus, I was learning about the Civil War in school at that time, and there was a battle called the Battle of Shiloh or something like that... all I could think about when people were talking about Angelina Jolie's baby was that she named her daughter after a battle in the Civil War! I don't know, it seems to be pretty popular on these boards so I might be the only one. Just wondering, though.

Actually...I grew up with a boy named Shiloh. Apparently it was quite common around the time of the Civil War and then had a resurrection around the time kids of my generation were being born. (1970s, if you're curious.)I don't think it's right for every kid, but there will be the occasional child that it suits. (Myself, I named my son's rocking horse Shiloh.)

kitschI don't like the name - celebrity association or not, but the celebrity association makes it that much more irritating.

I knew a girl named Shiloh in college. I remember I accidentally called her Silo one day, and I was so embarrassed. (And actually I knew a Shiloh in high school too, but for some reason she went by the nn Sloane instead.)I really like it, but definitely wouldn't use it these days because of Angelina Jolie.

I like it for a boy and a girl. I don't think I was too influenced by Angelina Jolie; I liked the name before Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt came along... Though now I like it more. It's one of the few unisex names I like.

I quite like the name Shiloh (for a girl) I must admit I had never heard it before Brangelina but oh well.

I've met one Shilo [this spelling] who is way older then Shiloh Jolie-Pitt, she must have been in her 20s.I have loved the name Shiloh way before she was even born. I would still use it to this day despite her sharing the same name.I do not like it because Angelina Jolie (I don't even like Angelina at all].My Shiloh would haven gotten his or her name from the children's book, and Shiloh the place, and another title for Jesus from the Bible.ETA: I think most people would like it because of Shiloh Jolie-Pitt, but some don't and have liked it before her. I haven't seen many baby Shilohs being born though. I come across one sometimes but not as much as you would think.

QuestionI've seen Shiloh in the Bible as a place name, but never as a title for Christ, and I'm wondering where you found it.

Shiloh being another title for Jesus is mentioned in the name description.

Oh, how stupid of me not to check BtN first. I've searched Bible websites for it, and at first I didn't find anything. I see where it is now, although I've always thought it to mean something like until the sons get to Shiloh (the city).

I dislike the name Shiloh. For me, it's too close to the word 'silo'. I don't know why, but this name sounds so tacky and shallow. *shrugs*

I loved the name Shiloh until Brangelina named their baby that. I think it's nice and feminine, I'm just not sure it would age nicely. Anyways, that's my two cents.x Cait x

Also, Shiloh was a name given to the Messiah. Even if you're not religious, that might offend a bunch of people. The first thing I think of is the dog, though. xD

Well, people are fond of claming they liked the name before the Jolie baby.It mostly seems like a dog name to me, because of the Neil Diamond song. Also a battle, and a lot of churches.Despite all that, it IS kinda cool. :)

Yeah, I suppose that would be useful.
