Chet?
Ur opinions on the name Chet for a boy pls. The "Ch" part is pronounced like in Charles. Is the name too unusual & effeminate?

Thank you to those of you who commented on the name Chet. It has given me some insights into how it is perceived & how it will be received by my son one day. I have decided to stick with the name. I personally think it's cute & kind of funky. But most of all the name has a very special meaning to me that overrides any negative comments I received. It is the name of a friend that I really admire & who has been a wonderful role model & inspiration to me. He carries the name so well & I just fell in love with it. So I have decided to name my son Chet Liam one day. Liam is after another inspirational figure in my life. Thanks again for your honest, sometimes touching & sometimes humorous responses.

Don't like it.

Not too unusual, not at all effeminate! It's cool, it's jazzy, it's manly (and my husband wouldn't agree to it! *pout*)

It sounds too nickname-y as a formal name, imo, but I don't really care for Chester at all. :-/

I've never come across Chet. It's unusual but I think you could use it.

Chet BakerI think of him right away. Great jazz musician, not a great namesake. See here:

I assume that "Ur opinions on the name Chet for a boy pls" translates as "What are you opinions on the name Chet for a boy, please?"I dislike it. It sounds like a soap opera / teenage night-time drama from the late 80s type name, like the star high school quarterback who is dating the head cheerleader at Sweet Valley or something. Blech, sorry.

I like it. I don't know why it doesn't give me the same soap-opera aversion that Chad, Chazz and Chance do. Perhaps because while I was growing up a news caster had that name (Chet Huntley, I think.) He was the same era as Walter Cronkite. Anyway, I have nothing but positive associations with Chet.

No, it doesn't seem at all effeminate. I think it's quite masculine. A little unusual, but not so much that it sounds strange. It immediately brings to mind Chet Atkins.
