Bysshe
Recently I've been thinking about the name Bysshe, as in Percy Bysshe Shelley. Now, I'm liking the name Bysshe, but I don't care for the writer. So, what do you think? Is Bysshe a good name, and will it always be associated with PBS?

I'm sorry, but Bysshe, prounounced BISH, sounds like someone drunk trying to say the not-so-nice B word, and slurring a bit. Not sometihng I'd want to name my child.Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

i know a girl named Bysshe and everyone calls her "bitch". she gets made fun of and when teachers ask her what her name is, they mistake it for bitch and they get really mad because they think that that's what she's calling them. Bysshe is okay for a middle name but not first.

May be too feminine for a guy

Other than being associated with Shelley, I fear that many people would see it as a silly way to say the word "bitch". :-/ Besides, it's apparently a variant of the surname Bush. Let's just not go there.... :((ETA the Bush part, lol)

LOLSorry, the PBS initials cracked me up; made me think of Public Broadcasting Service!I love Bysshe, and I think, yes, educated people will immedately associate the name with Percy. :o) However, I'm not sure the average person on the street would know of Percy Bysshe Shelley, you know? I think it would be fine on a RL kids. Most people would probably just hear it & think it was a nn for Bishop.Check Out Blinkyou.com for thousands of custom glitters and layouts

I love Shelley, but Bysshe will always be sound-alike to Bitch to me.I wouldn't advise it.Array

I wouldn't use it if you don't like Shelley. It's got that sound-alike thing with b*tch and if the child can't say "my parents named me after the writer," it kind of loses value.

How do you say it? To rhyme with 'fish'? If so, it's not very appealing to me ... But it doesn't remind me of Shelley in particular. Only Shelley does that ;-)_____________________________________________________________________Elinor

I don't think it can be used separate from Shelley. Nope, nope, nope.
