I've always said SAHN-ya (which is closer to SAW-nya). I could get used to SOE-nya, but that's definitely not my first reaction on how to say it when I first see it. But I live in the Southern U.S. so that might make a difference. :)

I always say SOHN-ya, and about half the time (I've met a lot of them lately for no particular reason), they correct me to SAHN-ya.- mirfak

I pronounce it SOWN-ya. Kind of a cross between SON-ya and SAWN-ya. I prefer the spelling Sonja.Sanya is also nice.

Sawn-yaThat's what you'd nearly always hear in Britain, in my experience. Especially with the character Sonia from Eastenders. I have an aunt named Sonja who also says it this way._____________________________________________________________________Elinor

Yes, sorry confusing Sow-nya as in Soap. Good.

I assume by "sow," you mean as in "reap what you sow"? Because I see it and hear sow as in "a sow's ear." I pronunce the name SOH-nya, like soap.Array

Sow-nya, but I guess SOHN-ya would be a more correct representation
