Tarkan is pretty similar to Tarkin, a character in Star Wars. I'm not sure that's a good connection. Grand Moff Tarkin is a bad guy in Star Wars.
I don't think Tarkan would ever become popular at all. It just seems too much of an Eastern European type of a name.
