I think of a very strong and intelligent person, with a distinct artistic / musical streak. One of my brother's very closest friends is a Tristan and the name suits him perfectly. He's also the only person with the name that I know personally.

Tristan is one of my favourite boys' names, for instance, Tristan Marius is one of my favourite name combinations. That puts what I percieve as being two 'strong-sounding' names together.
