Nickname for Sebastian?
My mother in law asked what nickname we would use if we named our son Sebastian, and I couldn't think of anything other than Bastian, and we don't like that.
Any suggestions?

Most common in Germany is Basti, albeit for the name Bastian (which can be a full forename itself)

I knew someone named Sebastian who went by Seb. I didn't find it very appealing, but I do love Sebastian with the nn Bastian.

I like Baz, too. It's my favorite nn for Sebastian. Though I knew a Sebastian who went by Seb/Sebby. :-/

a common nn for Sebastian in the Netherlands is Bas, I've also heard Sebas used, and Seb (which I absolutely adore!)

You could call him Bas or Baz. Like Sebastian Bach, that obnoxious guy on the show "Rock Star."

I don't think you need a nickname at all; you are choosing the name Sebastian after all, not Bastian or Seb or Seby... or a nickname may come from something other than his given name based on his personality or some thing that happens after he's born. ~ EM
