Nickname Wanted!!!!!
What would be a cute nickname for a girl named "Ireland"? I know that this is not a common name and that most people hate it but I just wanted to know what name you all think could be used for a nickname because I know that personally, I would not want to have everyone calling me "Ireland" all of the time. So if anyone has any suggestions just let me know!"Fathers be good to your daughters,
Daughters will love like you do.
Girls become lovers, who turn into mothers.
So mothers, be good to your daughters too." - John Mayer

I would not want to have everyone calling me "Ireland" all of the time.^ If that's the case, then naming your daughter Ireland in the first place would be pretty questionable. Honestly, I think Ireland is a daft name. It would be OK if it were just another place name as a given name, but it's not: it has so much silly baggage. It screams of an American who has never been there but is jumping on the trendy bandwagon of loving all things "Celtic", despite not knowing what / where that term actually refers to. (It does not mean "Irish and Scottish" and it does not encompass creations such as Brynnalee and Kaydenn.) I'm fairly sure you'll find me rude, but given your outburst below, I don't think you can complain on that point. In answer to your question, I suppose I suggest "Ire" or "Landie"._____________________________________________________________________Elinor

I never said I would name my daughter "Ireland", personally I would never do that, I just happen to like the name and was wondering what some cute nicknames could be."Fathers be good to your daughters,
Daughters will love like you do.
Girls become lovers, who turn into mothers.
So mothers, be good to your daughters too." - John Mayer

Oh I love "Lani"! Do you think "Laney" would make sense as well?"Fathers be good to your daughters,

Hmmm. If you really wanted to stick to that theme, you could go with Eire. But please take note; this is pronounced AIR-uh, not EYE-er!

Please don't name your child this. If you want to honor your heritage, why not use a Celtic or Gaelic name?ETA: In response to your question, I like Sabrina's suggestion of Erin.

PLEASE DON'T NAME YOUR CHILD "AUBREY", "AUDREY", "ALEXIS", OR "KIMBERLY". IF YOU WANT TO HONOR ALL OF THE FLOUZIES IN THE WORLD, WHY NOT USE A STRIPPER NAME SUCH AS "DESIREE" OR "STARLA"?OH, BY THE WAY, WHO EVEN SAID I'M IRISH? I COULD BE FRENCH, ITALIAN, OR EVEN NATIVE AMERICAN, AND YOU WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO TELL THE DIFFERENCE BECAUSE WE ARE TALKING OVER THE INTERNET! SO JUST BECAUSE I LIKE THE NAME "IRELAND", THAT AUTOMATICALLY MEANS THAT I'M IRISH? WELL HOW'S THIS FOR SOME NICE CELTIC AND GAELIC NAMES?Aoibheann

Re:This is an opinions board. She gave her opinion on the name Ireland, and just because she doesn't like it doesn't mean you have to flip out. Not everyone's going to agree with you all the time, so just calm down and get over it.

I was not screaming. Screaming requires talking. That was typing and all I was doing was typing in all capital letters."Fathers be good to your daughters,
Daughters will love like you do.
Girls become lovers, who turn into mothers.
So mothers, be good to your daughters too." - John Mayer

Typing in all capitals on the internet IS shouting or screaming. It's a basic point of internet etiquette that you DON'T do it.I'm not satisfied with your responses to this or to my private message. You're being watched and the next infraction will be reported to Mike. Lose the attitude and learn the way we do things here; or suffer the consequences.

Typing in capital letters is concidered to be shouting amongst the world wide internet community, it is seen as rude and obnoxious, its like screaming and yelling at a stranger in a public place.
I accept that you might not have known this but suggest you really think hard before you post in future as you could find people will stop replying to you, if they think you are going to go off in a screaming tantrum when they dont agree with your views.

Well, I'm assuming (and I could be totally wrong, so tell me if I am...) that you looked at her profile. There it says that she hates it when people write in all caps, which you did, and several of the names you mentioned are on her favorites list.If I'm wrong, I apologize, but I'm a bit confused as to how the comment "PLEASE DON'T NAME YOUR CHILD "AUBREY", "AUDREY", "ALEXIS", OR "KIMBERLY". IF YOU WANT TO HONOR ALL OF THE FLOUZIES IN THE WORLD, WHY NOT USE A STRIPPER NAME SUCH AS "DESIREE" OR "STARLA"?OH, BY THE WAY, WHO EVEN SAID I'M IRISH? SO JUST BECAUSE I LIKE THE NAME "IRELAND", THAT AUTOMATICALLY MEANS THAT I'M IRISH? WELL HOW'S THIS FOR SOME NICE CELTIC AND GAELIC NAMES?" was not intended to be rude, or at least was not made in kindness. All caps is considered the equivelant of shouting, so a post in all caps is rather rude and unneccesary. Also, you could have easily gotten the Irish names from the database.

I took the names from her favorites list because when I mentioned a name from my favorites list, not asking for opinions on it mind you just nickname suggestions, she forbid me to name my child that, so I decided to take a peek at her list and see if their where any names on it that I believe I child should not have. Yes most of those Irish names where taken from the database, that was the whole point. I was trying to show that not all Celtic and Gaelic names are something that most people would want to name their children in today's society. I think most of us would much rather be called "Ireland" then "Odharnait". That was the point I was trying to make, nothing more. Also, writing in all caps was a mistake in judgement, it came from a flare of anger after reading in her profile that she hates it when people write in all letters and then she forbid us to do it. It was pety and immature and I am sorry that I did it. My post was not meant to be taken as offensive or any type of shouting what so ever. I did not mean to rude and I am sorry that you took it that way and thought little of me. I'll try to reword my posts in the future."Fathers be good to your daughters,
Daughters will love like you do.
Girls become lovers, who turn into mothers.
So mothers, be good to your daughters too." - John Mayer
