Pomegranate for a girl
This may sound strange, and many won't believe me. My first daughter's name is Banana[we call her annie to avoid glares]. I'm thinking about naming my next daughter Pomegranate.[ we'll call her meg] I know no one in the right mind would name thier kids after fruits, but I believe fruits saved my life.{long story} Anyway, because I believe fruits are what keep me going, and protect me from sickness, I think it is only appropriate to name my children that to honor"them". I feel this is almost like a religion. Am I going overboard?

Yes I think your going overboard, use fruit names as middle names if you really must use them, Celeb children can get away with weird and wonderful names but Pomegranate Smith the Bus drivers daughter will be laughed at behind her back all of her life.

You named your daughter banana? Doesn't she get teased? I really support the whole "unique names" trend right now but this is going a little over board. You might want to think about naming her a normal first name and giving her a stranger middle name, or giving her a name that could have a fruity nick name. Like, I know you already have a banana in your house but you might have named her Hannah, and then called her "Hannah Banana" or something like that... P.S. I would love to hear that "Long story"

How about "Annabelle Bananabelle"?

My husband always pronounces it "pomegranata", a bit more name-like,I think.

I admit that you have a strange naming tradition, but Pomegranate isn't the strangest name that I've ever heard and at least you can call her Meg. I don't really care for the way Pomegranate sounds though. Other ideas:
Tangerine nn Angie or Tangie
Clementine
Cherry
Cerise (means "cherry" in French)
Blossom - Related to fruit trees.
Sakura - Means "cherry blossom".
Tresnja - "cherry"
Mei - "plum"
Li - "plum"
Pear (nickname Perry)
Ume - "plum blossom"
Umeko - "plum blossom child"
Prunella nn Nell, Nelle, Nellie, Nella, Ella, Ellie, or Elle - "plum"
Avalon - "apple"
Cam - "orange"; this is probably referring to the color though.

I would not want to be those little girls, stuck with names like Banana and Pomegranate. However, if you feel like you must honor you're so called "fruit religion" then how about some less excentric fruits?Apple
Grape
Peach
Pear
PlumAll horrible if you ask me, but I would much rather be named Apple than Pomegranate, even if the nickname was Meg.Whatever you decide to do, never give your daughter the name Cherry, because once she reaches junior high school she is going to be teased 24-7 (and I think most of us here know exactly what I mean).I just hope you never have octuplets because I can just see it now.Boysenberry
Cantalope
Grapefruit
Honeydew
Pineapple
Raspberry
Strawberry
Watermelon

Cherry is my favorite fruit name, actually, but just as a nickname.

I love it! I enjoy coming up with intresting names too. It's kind of a hobby of mine. I've recently been thinking of tree names, like Willow or Maple. If fruits are what you like, I say go for it. Just keep in mind who really gives us our health. After all, it's God who created fruit for our enjoyment. Hope everything goes well with the new baby! Have you thought of Cherry?
