The correct transliteration is Nikolai, with an "i." I know I'm being nerdy, but the "y" has a different sound than an "i." Besides, the "i" spelling looks more sophisticated to my eyes.I'm not the biggest fan of Troy, but Troy Nikolai sounds nice enough.
