Von vs Vaughn
My mother's last name is "von der A--" which in German means "from the..." and Miles Vaughn has been my favourite combo for many months. I'm just now realizing that it would make so much more sense for me to use Von instead of Vaughn, but I do really love the Vaughn spelling. So, Miles Von or Miles Vaughn?

Vaughn, definitely.'Von' is too vague for me and would hardly bear any connection to your mother's surname, IMO, since it's not the main point of a 'von der' Surname. Your son would be Miles From, not Miles Mothersurname. It'd be similar to calling him Miles Mac or Miles O if your mother's surname was MacDonald or O'Shea. Part of it's there, sure, but not the part that actually identifies the family.I'd go with Vaughn; since between the two it's the only one that's actually a name, I prefer it.

To me, the middle name Von would look more like a lead-in to the last name (as it is for your mother: "from...") than a middle name. It seems like it could be confusing. So I'd go with the spelling Vaughn, which looks like a name in itself.

I prefer the spelling Vaughn. Also, Von seems unfinished to me.

I'd use Miles Vaughn, because besides your family no one will no the Von connection and then it just looks as if you couldn't spell or like it's kreatif. Also I only saw Von as a name as a nn for Yvonne so to me it seems feminine. And third reason: to me using Von because of von der -- is like naming him Miles From to me.

I think a name's spelling should be as straight forward as possible, unless a certain spelling just feels better to you. so I'd go with Miles Von, but that's me. if you love Vaughn, go with it.Luxiana

Von doesn't look quite right to me (though neither does Vaughn; my favourite spelling is Vaughan), but if it honours your mother, that'd be really cool to use.Array
