Elaine is nms but I don't think it's a bad name, either. And it's certainly no older for a baby than some of the names being used today. Also, Lainie is a really cute nick if you decide to go that route.

I've had a soft spot for Elaine for quite a while. :o) I don't think it sounds too old for a baby at all! I love the nn Lainey and my favorite combo is (I think) Elaine Genevra...or maybe Elaine Mirele. One of those two, anyway. :o)

Lol it always makes me laugh when someone asks does this name sound too old for a baby, Babyhood lasts just a couple of years a person is an aduld if the are lucky for sixty or sewventy years so personally I never even concider how a name sounds on a baby

It's my future mother in law's name and to be honest, I don't like it! I just don't like the sound or look of it really. I don't think it would be very good on a baby these days either, sorry.

Elaine is a pretty name. I would never be able to use it due to associations though. I don't think that it sounds too old for a baby, but this is coming from someone who really likes the name Lorraine.

its doesnt sound to old to me.... once you get used to the name... it will sound like a reguler name!! its a great name! if you like... go with it!

I think it sounds to old. my 79 year old neighbor is named elaine.

My aunt is named Elaine; she's in her sixties but pretty fun. I don't really like the name, and I definately think it's best for an older woman. But with the nn Ellie, it could be okay for a baby. My friend's four year old is Edith nn Edy, and that works IMO.

Alaine is French meaning dear child and Irish meaning beautiful. I love it because it DOESN'T make me think of Elaine on Seinfeld or Lady Elaine on Mr. Roger's Neighborhood. It has a softer sound.

I like Elaine, I think it would suit a baby/toddler. You could use Ellie or Lainey at that age, too, as a NN.
