Re: Orchid ...
I really like it, too. It's so pretty, and the flowers are so pretty! My only problem is that I've seen the movie Adaptation way too many times, and in the movie they explain that the word Orchid comes from the Greek word for testicle. So I'm like, "It's so pretty... but if I ever used it, I wouldn't blame my daughter for murdering me in my sleep upon finding out what it means." On the other hand, how many people will ever know what it means?

Someone will surely tell a girl named Orchid what the original Greek derivation of her name was some day. Any parents who do name a daughter this should tell her themselves what it means as soon as she's old enough to understand what a testicle is. This is the sort of information that will be easier to take, and to forgive, if the parents are the ones who first impart it, rather than some nasty junior high school smartass.
