Personally, I think matching initials are perfectly fine, as long as the names themselves aren't too similar. Eleanor and Evander don't seem cheesy twinny to me, while Lucille and Lucinda (though both lovely names alone) as twins would grate on my nerves.
The same MN seems worse than matching initials, because it's a little stereotypically twinny to me. If i were to hear of a girl named Zoey Marsha who had a twin with the middle name Marsha, I'd automatically assume her first name was something rhymey like Chloe - whether honoring people or not, giving twins the same MN is just uncreative.
