I like Abigail. I have always liked it but it was never really a favorite until recently. (It has been a favorite of my sister for years; when she was little one of her favorite dolls was Abigail). I find Abigail sweet, soft, pretty and feminine without being too frilly.

Hi! I LOVE Abigail. It sounds pretty and strong, and it has just about the sweetest meaning I could imagine. Abby's a really nice nickname that ages well IMO. This is one of the very few girls names (Hannah is the other) that I could care less if there are a ton of other girls with the name. It just doesn't matter. Here are my favorite middle names for Abigail:
Abigail Tora
Abigail Mia
Abigail Tora Mia
Abigail Brianne
Abigail Jocelyn Mia/ Abigail Mia Jocelyn
Abigail Tess/Abigail Theresa (Abby Tess!)
Abigail Kathleen (Abby Kate!)
All the middle names have some significance for me, plus I like how they sound.
I dislike the sound of it but Abby is a cute nn. But it have one of the best namesakes and role models for a little girl in Abigail Adams, wife of John Adams, who could go toe to toe intellectually with her husband, Jefferson, etc. and who had a really lovely and equal relationship with her husband.
The only other knock is that it is overused. I think its in the top 10 now.

Abigail / Abigael was one of the Hebrew names I found masculine and not pretty, along with Yocheved (wrongly listed here as Jochebed), Yael... Now I find them strong and full of personality, and I like the Biblical historical characters. I still have problems with finding Ruth (root) feminine though, although I love the Biblical person. lol

I love the name Abigail, mostly because my cousin chose it as one of the names for her twin daughters, who both died. I've never really thought about that name until my cousin used it, but it is a beautiful name.
