Scout can be a nickname for anything at all. Scout Finch's name is Jean Louise which I think is lovely, but if you don't like it then pick something else, and use Scout as a nickname.
An example: my friend and her husband wanted to call their son Bo, but they did not want to name him Bo nor did they like any of the names for which Bo is traditionally a nickname. They named their son James Foster Lastname; he has never been called anything but Bo.

I love the name Thaddeus. I've known only one; he is a 60-ish man who is always called Thad.

That is a good idea! I guess it's like the nn Tiny, which I posted about ages ago, but Scout doesn't really have to kept within the family like Tiny would. Thanks
