I have a sappy romance novel where the main male character's called Ransom Richard Laird. Author says Ransom means "son of the shield". Yep. The novel was so cliché and sappy (yes, we know Ransom has golden hair, no need to remind us every page) that I had to put it down half-way through and go look for some angsty fanfic to counteract the saccharine.

Avery is a male name to me, and Tindall resembles Kendall... which sounds like "Ken doll" and is also very male to me (the name also appears on my formula bags, but I'm unsure who Kendall refers to--it isn't the manufacturer, whose name is Tycho).
