Henrietta, Henrika and Harriet
What do you think of these names, all derived from Henry/Harry/Henrik?
This week Henrietta and Henrika had name day in Sweden. I like Henrietta, it sounds like the name of a princess.
Henrika and Harriet sound more like no-nonsens names. Female but not very feminine.
"You may give them your love but not your thoughts. For they have their own thoughts.
You may house their bodies but not their souls,
For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow, which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams."

I like Henrietta. It's very soft, pretty and feminine, and it makes me think of the mysterious Henrietta, the love of Giacomo Casanova's life, as he put it himself (I'm currently reading Casanova's biography, so that's the first thing I associate Henrietta with right now).
I knew a Henrika once, years, years ago. She was the cool girl of my year in middle school, but she didn't really like me so this name is always going to be somewhat childhood-angst-ridden for me ;-)
I've never really liked the name Harriet. It's always seemed very rough and unpleasant to me.

I'm not big on Henrika, but I like Henrietta and I love Harriet (esp. with the nn Hattie). But I love Henry--for a boy--more. :)

I've always loved Henrietta, and the Dutch NNS for it, Jet and Jetje. Henrika is kinda cute, though it does kinda have the look of one of those names that seems like the parents really wanted a boy but got a girl instead. I've never really cared for Harriet.
“The caveman method I abhor, and I do not believe that it is ever successful with the women who is worth having. Who could desire a woman taken by force? Who would gain any pleasure from loving or caressing a woman who did not give in return?"

I'm not particularly fond of most names ending in -ette or -etta, and Henrietta is no exception--so very frilly. I like Henrika better; it's clean and crisp and angular in a take-no-prisoners sort of way. Harriet is a name I genuinely love. It's crisp as well, but less jagged than Henrika; it's got some softness without losing its edge. (Why am I thinking so texturally today?) I'll admit I first started liking it after I'd read Dorothy Sayers's mystery novels with Harriet Vane--the character's so interesting that her name began growing on me, too.
I think Henrietta and Harriet are so gorgeous! Im not so keen on Henrika.
Off topic, my parents are going to Sweden to visit our friend Birger in a week or two, I really wanted to go because I miss him, but I have uni! What will the weather be like over there in a week or a fortnight?

I adore the name Henrietta. I picture a young English woman in the court of King Charles II, with ringlets in her hair. I like all the usual nns, Hettie, Hattie and Harriet, but I love the nn Etta (or even Ettie) the most. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henrietta_Maria_of_France
Henrika is new to me. I like it.
Harriet reminds me more of a young woman at the turn of the 20th century. A Gibson girl. Very cute. http://wikipedia.org/wiki/Gibson_Girl
