Bartleby!
I don't think I'd ever use it, but I think it's a cool name. It's definitely surname territory though. This is the name of the protagonist in the movie Accepted, which I saw last night, which put the name in my head. :P What do you think?

Haha what a great movie... I thought Bartleby was a pretty cool name, too, but I hated the nn "B".I don't see no shine,

The Scrivener!...At least, that's who I hear. Bartleby the Scrivener chooses not to do anything--and in the end, chooses not to live. It's not a particularly cheerful association.("Bartleby the Scrivener" is a short story by Herman Melville. Pretty good, too--slog through it sometime, friends. :D)Otherwise, I'd really like the name. Even so, I rather like the name--but I think I'd recommend Bartholomew (Tolly!) instead. I'd rather a son made hundreds of hats than waste away in a prison. ;)Array

I think of the Scrivener, too, but I think of him more positively. I think he is an almost tragic hero; he didn't ask to be saved, and the lawyer should not have presumed that he needed help. They were the choices he made. I mean, yeah, the death is prison isn't such a great thing, but anyway . . .I do also like the sound and look of Bartleby, but I would be afraid for the NN Bart with this, too, and I don't like that at all.

How coincidental - I watched "Dogma" two days ago, where there is a fallen angel named Bartleby (played by Ben Affleck). I prefer it as a middle name, but not as a first name.
