I've only ever heard it pronounced as BRON-tay, and it's used a lot where I live (Haworth is not that far away). Come to think about it I've never heard it pronounced BRON-tee around here, it's always been the BRON-tay Museum, BRON-tay Country etc.
It's too masculine for my tastes to be used for a girl but I can see why it is because of the Bronte sisters (though there was a Bronte brother, don't forget poor, old Branwell.)
