I would probably think that they were nicknames at first. They're all very bad imo. I would certainly wonder why their parents gave them names like that.

It would affect my initial thoughts about the person, my first impression. But as I have found, once you get to know the person, you usually get past the name. Though I still do connect certain names, esp. the more unusual ones, with the people I know, so if that person's nice then I have a more favorable view of the name, for example. I was hoping Thumper and her sibs went by nn's but it appears not. :( Though if she turned out to be a wonderfully sweet, smart, friendly person, I don't think I'd be less likely to go to her if she were, say, a doctor just because her name was Thumper. (I would, however, have a giggle over it when I told others her fn. :b)

I think this veterinarian has been around too many animals for too long, because all of those names he has given his kidssound like cheesy pet names.
I wouldn't choose a professional, lawyer, doctor, whatever by his or her first name, but I can tell you that I would seriously wonder about the intellectual status or maturity of an educated adult who still allowed themselves to be called by Thumper or Nifty. Nicknames aren't necessarily unprofeessional or immature. Bill Clinton, Betty Ford, Jimmy Carter and Sally Ride demonstrate that.
However, there's a BIG difference between Bill and Scooter. Yeah, I know there's Scooter Libbey, Dick Cheney's friend, but he's a crook so he doesn't count. lol And his name is Lewis.
To be totally honest, I wouldn't associate the name Thumper with a girl who does all the beauty pageants and comes from a well-known respectable family. If I try to think of it on a person at all, I would picture a little kid born to a mentally retarded person who shouldn't be having babies at all, who just thought Thumper was cute and nobody cared enough to set her straight.
Or else it's a self-chosen name for a stripper, to go with Bambi.

No, actually it probably wouldn't if I knew the person. On the other hand if they just said Dr. Scooter I might wonder a bit. But if I met him and he turned out to be a nice, good doctor I wouldn't mind. (I would wonder though about his parents). A person's name doesn't really say anything about their character (unless of course a parent named their kid Demon or something so the child behaved in a certain way because of it). Anyway, it probably wouldn't change my opinion of them, but I think it would affect their careers.

We had some birth announcements a couple of year ago where I lvie for a set of twins calle Bramble and Nunchaka, Bramble was a girl and Nunchaka was a boy. I just don't get it at all.

OMG... how ironic that he is a vet, because to me Thumper, Dandy, etc. are names you give a cat or dog or gerbil.

If they were nicknames, they wouldn't really bother me. Dandy as a nickname for Andrew is really snappy, and since I like Tifty for Tiffany, Nifty for...uh...Nicholas or something wouldn't be bad.

As real names, though--real, full, written-on-the-certificate names--I would wonder. Especially with Scooter; that's what Wolverine calls Cyclops when he's being an ass (aka, all the time). It's not a name. ;)
