I will break it down for you.
Take of the S so that you have Hayda. Then pronounce the first part like "Hi", as in Aya. Soften to "da" so that it's "di". And there you have it--Heidi.

Yeah, I see where it can be confusing. But then again, something that isn't too obvious would make a unique nickname.
