I like it as a nickname.
I don't know if I'd care for it as a given name but I like the idea of someone bearing it in a voluntary kind of way. :-) It's sweet and while most people have heard it it's definitely unusual to see in real life.
I definitely prefer it as a nickname for Virginia over Ginny. Ginny reminds me of a booze-related quasi-insulting nickname along the same lines as Rummy.
Motherland fatherland homeland native land.
It’s all the same. What the hell good to you
is your native land after you’re dead? Whose
native land is it after you’re dead?

Too nicknamey for me
Don't care for it, but as long is it's not spelt Jinger or Jinjer, I'm ok. ;o)
I think it takes a certain kind of girl to carry it off and I can't really picture it on a young child. It makes me think of someone spirited, strong and sassy.
Well, I really dislike anything with ginger, but as a name I think it's nice.

Great NN for Virginia
I love it and have for a long time.

It's sweetly rustic to me - and just a little bit ruined by the airhead character on Gilligan's Island. Overall, I like it alright.

I agree
I really like this name. She could go by Ginny / Ginnie or Ginger. using it as a nn is good too because there are so many nice Gin- names. But if you like Ginger more than any of those, go with Ginger.
I actually like Ginjer better for some odd reason. and I'm not one for creative spellings. Maybe because it looks more Scandinavian and I tend to like those names a lot.

It just makes me picture someone really... trashy. Can't say why though.
Ginger makes me think of the character from "Gilligan's Island" or a ditzy waitress (for some odd reason). Seems good as a nn, or for a pet, maybe, but I just don't much care for it. :-/

ooh, that's..
kinda damning. It's like Randy .. you can use it in the US, but don't cross the Atlantic! LOL

ETA, whoops, I need to disclaim, I'm not saying that homosexuality is damned, just that a name with connotations about ANY sexuality is probably too silly
