Ella.
First- I am used to utterly despising Ella. It sounds so fluffy, girlie, and spoiled!
So then, how come I love the combo Rosemary Ella? It was suggested to me by Elle, and I can't decide weather or not to like it. I love Rosemary Ella, but in any other combo- Ella is awful, imo. So what do I do? Continue hating Ella, or love Rosemary Ella?
Any opinions appreciated!

its quite nice
My cousin Meytal (see Meital) goes by Ella. I don't really like it, and the "goddess" meaning is pretentious to me.

If it were me, I'd probably go ahead and love Rosemary Ella, but then again, I personally really like the name Ella :) I think the combination is lovely, and since it's in the MN spot, it perhaps doesn't seem as fluffy, girly, or spoiled, although I don't see it that way, myself.

I'd go ahead and love Rosemary Ella. I feel the same way about the name, but this combo is very nice. I have the same problem with another name myself-- Lily. I hate it, and yet I adore the combo Agatha Lily.

Rosemary Ella is wonderful, IMO, but I love love love Ella. Something about it screams (or whispers gently) "simple and sweet". Continue liking the combo, it's wonderful :)
Why do you love Ella? Well, this woman, naturally: http://www.loc.gov/loc/lcib/9708/ella.html
That's why I love it, at least. I hear strength, power, and an amazing creativity in the name. It's not enough to make me want to use it--the blonde-haired, blue eyed nouveau yuppie Ellas driven around in their parents' luxury automobiles kills any love other than the theoretical sort--but it's certainly not a weak name in my eyes. :)
May I suggest the similar, even stronger Etta? Rosemary Etta and Etta Rosemary both sound fabulously old-fashioned while avoiding the tryndee aspect Ella unfortunately brings to the table. Rosemary Elle or Elle Rosemary would be nice, too. Rosemary Enna, perhaps, or Rosemary Edda? Rosemary Ebba? Rosemary Essa? Rosemary Evva? :) All sound similar without being Ella. ;)
If you can't warm up to Etta (which would be my first choice, after the incomparable Etta James) or any of the others, either let the combo go or love it anyway as a guilty pleasure. Neither option is wrong--it's just a question of what'll make you happier.

...And then he said, "You're independent, aren't you?"
"Yes," said Laura.

Oh, cool, an interesting, intelligent Ella! That gives the name points, all right... Thanks for posting the link.
Etta could grow on me, but I'm not too fond at the moment. However, I will definetly take Rosemary Elle and Rosemary Essa into consideration- I adore both! Thanks for the suggestions.

If ever you need some music by the First Lady of Song, I'd be happy to send you some. Everyone should know Ella Fitzgerald--she's what makes the name. :D
I really like Rosemary Essa, too. :) I was hoping you might.

Ella is awful. I'm sorry if I'm offending anyone but I hate it as a fn. It just doesn't fill the spot of a fn. On the other hand I think it's okay as a mn, especially if you have a fn on the longer side, like Rosemary. I think Rosemary Ella is a pretty combo.

Why should you "decide" to like something? Either you like it or you don't like it, either way is fine, it's YOUR choice and even if you like Ella in this one combo, it doesn't mean you have to like it in any other combo. Don't be so hard on yourself!
I personally have never liked Ella, because it's very old-ladyish to me, and also it seems like only half a name, the end half. I used to work with a woman named Rae-Ella, and she was this dame in her forties who looked sixty because she chain-smoked and fried herself under the tanning lamp 365 days a year. She looked hard enough to roller skate on.
If you want to get around the Ella on its own thing with your combo, you could always use Rose Mariela. Same sound, different spelling.

This is a bit hard. It was this way for me with Emma Claire. I used to despise Claire until someone suggested it with Emma and now I adore it! Now Claire seems to go with almost any name! :)
Don't worry about disliking Ella so much, especially if you like this combo a lot. I'd say add it to your favorites list for a little while and then either you'll start to love it or you'll start to hate it. Either way, you win because it's your favorites list. Right? :)
