A Name I'm Starting to Like
I've been thinking about it, and I have decided that I would possibly use Yuri on a girl. This is because it's Japanese, and being in the process of learning to speak Japanese fluently, it would be nice to have that connection.
However, I also have a fetish for all things Slavic, and I'd love to live in Russia or Ukraine, so if my future child went to school in these countries, do you think she will get picked on because her name is in fact a male's name?
Also, what are some mn suggestions? I'm quite stuck.
Let me know your opinions, TIA!

I would love Yuriko, but not Yuri.
See, in the realm of anime, yuri fic would be an explicit story about two women. (Two men would be yaoi.) The reason it's called yuri is because of the meaning "lily"--think of it as a euphemism for girly-bits. Sort of like a Georgia O'Keeffe painting, y'know?
So...I just can't handle this one. Yuriko, sure--I think it's lovely--but Yuri makes me cringe.

...And then he said, "You're independent, aren't you?"
"Yes," said Laura.
A revolution without dancing is a revolution not worth having.

Thank you!
I just didn't want to be the first to mention yuri fic, heh. But, yeah, I agree.
I think Yuriko is a pretty alternative, too. So is Sayuri, if you don't mind the Memoirs of a Geisha connection.

SunniBeth, I don't think it's a stretch to say
that in a manner of speaking, it's my name in Japanese, since it means "lily," KWIM? I think it's very pretty. I frankly like the Japanese female name better than the Russian male name, though I know that sounds crazy. I'm at a loss for mn suggestions right now though.
Except perhaps Tatiana? Then she could go by that when in Russia.

Wow, you want to live in Ukraine! My mother is from there.
Yuri is pretty common, although maybe not so much where my mum is from. She is from just by the border with Poland, and it used to in fact be in Poland, but they made it part of the USSR and turfed out all the Polish people. My family was counted as ethnic Ukrainian, so they stayed, although my family did not identify with the Russians as much as maybe other Ukrainians. My grandparents prefer to speak Polish to Russian.
Keeping the post on topic, I'm not sure it could work in Ukraine or Russia. If you did use it maybe you could call her by both names, or her friends could use her middle name and you could use Yuri.
On the vaguely Slavic theme:
Yuri Saskia
Yuri Tatiana
Yuri Elena (my mum's name)
Yuri Kateryna/ Katerina (my mum's mn, she is westernised and so has two fn)
Yuri Natasa (my grandma's name)
Yuri Mariya
Yuri Milena
Yuri Mila
Yuri Emiliya
Yuri Anouska
Yuri Anastasia
Yuri Kamila
Yuri Irina
Others:
Yuri Selene
Yuri Odette
Yuri Katrine
Yuri Claudine
Yuri Celeste
Yuri Cassandra
Yuri Adeline
Yuri Lisette
Some of them might work flipped if you want Yuri as a mn.

Wait, the meaning of TIA , WDTM? I know a different meaning. Also, I don't think the'll get picked on. Also, I think that Yuri sounds more feminine. So does the Russian name Nikita. Also, I know a Japanese with the name Eugene. I think its a little odd. WDYT?
