'bonifatius' looks very Latin to me: 'bonus' means 'good' and 'fatius' is from 'ferre' which means 'to do', so in total it means "someone who does good" (weldoener in Dutch, benefactor in English)

It was Napolean's name (as in the Emperor of France). Napolean Boniface.

It's an old French name, not used since the 19th century probably. It's prn. bon-if-ahs. Not my style at all.

I don't really like it; the word "face" seems too glaringly obvious in it. I think Bonifacio is nice, though.

I've heard of it before (as in the saints and popes with the name, like the hyperlink says). And, no offense, but I can't help but laugh when you say you thought it was made up.
